Importance of AR and VR in education

In this article you will understand the importance of AR and VR in education.

Have you guys ever heard about the terms Virtual Reality(VR) and Augmented Reality(AR). If I talk about humans, then a human need 5 senses i.e., sight, smell, hearing, touch and feel in order to interact with the real world. So If I say that in order to show you some world which is out of the real world then it is possible only if our senses should be controlled.

AR and VR

So, Virtual Reality make you feel that there is some world other than real world i.e., a virtual world or a digital world. In Virtual Reality, your eyes and ears are controlled with the help of a VR headset. It is commonly used for playing games and watching 3D movies.  I am sure that you must heard about Metaverse which is Facebook’s parent company. Metaverse is also based on Virtual Reality. If I talk about the Augmented Reality, we all using it. Surprised??? Well, we all use smartphone right? It is nothing but Augmented Reality. But how it is different from Virtual Reality?  Well, Augmented Reality does not make you feel that you are out of the real world rather it just add the digital elements into your real world surroundings just like you are using snapchat and applying filters. You see a different picture of yours in snapchat when you apply different filters, so it means you are applying some digital content into your real world, it is nothing but augmented reality. Another example is Google Maps. It shows signs like Bus stop, restaurants, petrol pumps, name of different roads, garage, hospitals and many more but it is visible only on your phone which means some digital content is introduced. That signs are not present in the real world but it is visible only in your mobile phone or any other gadget that you are using.

So now the question is how it is helpful in education. Well, now a days mostly every person is using smartphone to take help for their studies. VR and AR totally changed the way we studied before. We have a lot of content in google, You Tube and other EdTech platforms which totally changed the way we learnt before. With the help of Virtual Reality, we can explore, experience, and feel the content that is beyond engagement. We can experience the different places when sitting at one place. We can see the different processes like how pollination occurs; how different animals look like, how the different places looks like. In medical field, how surgery is done, how AR maps the patient body i.e., the location of veins, arteries. Many EdTech platforms like Byju’s, Unacademy, VedantuCoursera etc. really help the students to get future ready for their jobs. WhiteHat Junior help the students from class 1st to class 12th in learning how to code, that means If you are in 1st or 2nd class, you can also learn coding. We can learn about different fields, prepare for the jobs while sitting at home. All this is because of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

AR and VR in education during Covid-19

During Covid-19, we see the importance of technology. If technology is not there, then the life would be tough. It is just because of technology, our studies were saved during pandemic. Students can enroll in different courses and learn different things with the help of technology. If you love to teach, you can do with the help of technology. Thus, I can say that learning and teaching became very easy due to technology and AR and VR in education makes the learning easier than ever.
